How to Find the 1645 Chord Progression in the Key of C
Every Key has 7 chords. But how do you know what ones are in the key? You can use the Major Scale to find the Chords.
It also helps to know the notes on the guitar fretboard. Which is in my guitar Bootcamp course.
The Major Scale looks like this on the fretboard.
As you can see starting with the 1 chord. Which is at the 8th fret of the 6th string. This is the C note.
Then we are going to count the next dot on the scale is at the 10th fret.
The 2 is a whole step up from the C note. Which means this is the D.
Now on the A string or fifth string. the dot is at the 7th fret is the 3rd of the scale. Which is the E note.
Next to that note on the 8th fret. Still on the A string, is the 4. And the 4 in the key of C is the F.
When you fret the 8th fret of the A string you have an F note. Then on the scale is the 10th fret of the A string. When fretted there you are playing the 5 or the G note.
After that your going to play the 7th fret on the D string which is the A. The 6 chord is of the C scale is an Am.
Even though when you are finding the chords of the scale it is an A. There are rules in guitar. And the 145 chords are Major. And the 236 chords are minor chords.
So if you remember that you will be able to find the chords.
All that is left is the 7 chord. When you look at the scale above you will see that the 7th dot is on the D string at the 10th fret and it is a B.
That’s how you find the chords of the Scale.
What Chords are the 1645 in the Key of C and Why
The chords that are the 1645 in the key of C are C Am F and G. The root chord of any scale is the 1 chord.
In the key of C the one chord is the root and it is the C chord. according to the Major scale here are the chords in the scale:
C Dm Em F G Am And BDim. Which is also 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
The 1 is c, 6 is the Am, 4 is the F and 5 is the G chord.

C Chord Guitar
- Place your first finger on the B string, at the first fret. (2nd string).
- Your second finger is on the D string. 4th string, at the second fret.
- Then your third finger is on the 5th string. At the third fret. Which is the A string.
- When Strumming the C chord. Don’t play the 6th string.

Am Chord Guitar
- Place your first finger on the 2nd string. The B String, at the 1st fret.
- Put your second finger on the 4th string, (D string) at the second fret.
- Then your third finger is on the G string, (3rd string) at the second fret.
- Strum from the fourth string down.
F Barre Chord Guitar
- Your first finger is across all the strings at the First fret. Like a Capo.
- Place your second finger on the 3rd string. (G string). At the second fret.
- Then place your third finger on the 5th string. The A string, on the 3rd fret.
- Under the third finger is your pinkie. Also at the 3rd fret on the 4th string.
- You can strum all the strings when playing the F Barre Chord.

G Chord Guitar
- Place Your first finger at the second fret of the A string. Which is the 5th string.
- Put your second finger at the third fret on the E string. The 6th string.
- Your third finger is at the third fret. On the B string. (2nd string)
- Then place your pinkie on the third fret of the high E string. The 1st string.
- When strumming the G chord you can play all the strings.
Making the Chord Progression Pop
With just a couple of notes in between the chords you can make this chord progression pop. And here is how to do this.
First Star
Okay So we are going to play in this order C Am F and G. But to make it sound Great add this notes in
between the chords.
Starting here with the C note. after playing the C chord. Fret at the 3rd fret of the 5th string.
Pick the string, and then fret at the 2nd fret. Still on the A string. Then move to the Am chord.
Play the Am chord then pick the open A string 5th string. And use your pinkie to fret the 3rd fret of the 6th string. Which is the G note.
Then move to play the F chord. After playing the F chord. Your going to Move to the G chord playing frets 1 2 3 on the 6th string.
Then play the G chord.
And then you can start again with the C chord. Playing notes 3rd fret on 6th string.
The open A string, 2nd fret on the 5th string, 3rd fret on the A string and back to the One chord. Which is the c chord.
