What has been your favorite/go to sleep training guide? There are so many options out there like Taking Cara Babies, books, blogs, apps. I want to invest in one but not sure which one is worth the money. Any recommendations or favorites?

honestly I never purchased any of those types of things (even including other branches of parenting like when they begin solids, behavioral milestones, etc). I never knew they were a thing until my last baby was born 2 years ago LOL he's my third and the first one I actually (felt like I needed to / wanted to) sleep trained.

I simply did research on the different methods and then picked one that I thought would work best for us and modified to my own family's needs if I felt I should. no regrets and it did the trick. a big part of me thinks the things you have to pay for are just gimmicks and not necessary but to each their own for sure.

I do know a lot of parents really like the whole Taking Cara Babies thing though

I’ve used Baby Wise for all 5 of mine. Some of them fell into the schedule easily, others it took a bit of work. I start them on it from birth and it never required any CIO. But I have had 2/5 that just needed to nurse more, but I kept the nap schedule the same and fit extra feeds in here and there. As I have got older I have needed to keep the dream feed as a part of their schedule for a long time to maintain supply.

@sbjohns,

my baby born 6/6 was naturally doing a schedule very close to the 1-2 week Baby Wise schedule so getting her into that rhythm was super easy. She’s only waking once at night now (3 am) at 2 weeks old on the 3-6 week old schedule.

@sbjohns,

what time do you put her to bed? My baby was born 6/3 and he has had a really good schedule since birth. There are a couple times throughout the day that we struggle - mid morning and bedtime. I’m a FTM so I think I just need a guide to help keep a good routine going for us.

@cdubbs007,

do you mean how long are her wake periods or what time is “bedtime” at night?

I don’t let her stay up for more than an hour for feeds and waketime. Bedtime is 8. I get in bed to nurse her at 8, then she’s immediately down on me or in the bassinet. The “last feed of the night” is at 11 and I go to bed with her. She wakes at 3 (I set an alarm, but when I wake up she’s usually awake already smacking her lips but not fussing yet) to feed and goes right back down until 7 (I do the same with the alarm). That’s what I call her first feed of the day.

The Happy Sleeper (book). TCB has the same info as a lot of books but is quite expensive because of her social media reach. I know it’s great for some people so that’s awesome but I’d always encourage someone to try a research based sleep book first and potentially save the money.
