This healthy 3 ingredient fudge takes just minutes to mix up. Made with just coconut oil, honey and cocoa powder, it’s a snack you can feel good about eating!

Several months ago, some friends of ours came over for the evening and brought along this delicious healthy fudge that they had made.

I generally don’t like fudge that much, but this recipe was so creamy and chocolatey. I loved it!

And when I discovered that it was made with just 3 simple, whole food ingredients, I knew I had to get the recipe!

Ingredients for Healthy Fudge

  • Coconut Oil. This is what makes the fudge deliciously creamy. I like to use unrefined virgin coconut oil since it is the purest form and has the most health benefits.
  • Honey. Yay for being naturally sweetened!
  • Cocoa Powder. Gives it a rich chocolate flavor. I use regular cocoa powder, but you can also use Dutch processed if you prefer.

Substitutions and Additions

Do I have to use coconut oil?
Yes! Other oils will not firm up when chilled. If you aren’t a big fan of coconut flavor, using refined coconut oil might help as the flavor is a bit milder.

Can I make other flavors or add other ingredients to change up the taste?
You can add ¼ tsp. vanilla extract, 2-3 drops of peppermint extract, orange zest or, ¼ tsp. sea salt to the fudge. You can also sprinkle some nuts or coconut flakes on the top as well.

How to Make this Three Ingredient Fudge Recipe

STEP ONE: Melt the coconut oil. Add the honey and cocoa powder and using a whisk, stir together until thoroughly combined.

STEP TWO: Pour into a parchment paper lined pan and chill in the fridge or freezer until firm. I use a 9×5 inch loaf pan and it’s the perfect size, but any similar sized dish will work.

I would not use anything much larger, as the pieces of fudge will end up too thin.

STEP THREE: Once firm, cut into 24 pieces and enjoy!

This recipe was originally published in 2017 and was updated in 2021. The original recipe instructions said to mix the fudge up in a blender, but numerous readers had trouble getting the ingredients to mix well. The updated version states to just whisk the ingredients together, which is not only simpler but also seems to take care of the problem that readers were having with the fudge not mixing up properly.

    I love using coconut oil in baking and fudge is usually a big no-no for my waistline, so I know I’m going to enjoy this!
    The recipe says 1 cup, but is that solid or liquid?

      1 cup liquid will be the same as solid, so you can measure it whichever way is easiest for you. I hope this fudge will be a big hit for you, Jen!

    Thank you for this recipe! I made it last night and it is good and rich! The only issue I had though was after it set up it had coconut oil on the top. It did not look appetizing. I had to scrape off the coconut oil then warm a spoon to smooth the top surface. It worked out in the end but I would prefer not having to do that. How do you ensure you have it mixed well to prevent that?

      I’m so glad you are enjoying the fudge, Kristen! But I’m really sorry about the issue with the coconut oil. I only ever had that happen once, but that was back when I used my blender to make it, as I mentioned in the blog article. Whisking the ingredients together by hand has seemed to do the trick for me. But your comment made me curious so I googled a bit and it seems like the answer might be to just soften the coconut oil instead of melting it. Apparently, it’s the liquid state that makes it easier for the oil to separate out. I hope that helps get you fantastic results if you try the recipe again!

    Oh my gosh. I wanted to tell you how much you how much I loved this!! I didn’t have honey so I used raw blue agave nectar. Came out perfect, and after blending the ingredients it was still warm from melting the coconut oil and actually can be used for a DELICIOUS hot fudge. Very simple and versatile recipe, thank you!

        I ended up adding about 2 tbsp of almond milk to it and using it as a chocolate sauce. I drizsled it over fruit and coolwhip. The almond milk made it very creamy and kept the coconut oil from seperating. It is now my go-to recipe for a sweet tooth hehe.         Im surprised. Why is this called healthy? Just because it uses so called “healthy” ingredients? Its FAT, & SUGAR with some cocoa powder…
        Could certainly be a truly healthy snack if you took the time to figure out an actual recipe. Ex: Adding Sweet potatoes or pumpkin for added fiber/ vitamins/minerals…things like that. People seriously need to reevaluate what they consider healthy foods. BTW, I have never written a negative review about someone’s recipe without trying it first. This is the exception- because it was such a disappointment to click on the title expecting something interesting & a good healthful choice , only to see these ingredients in large quantity. 👎

          Hi Pat! I’m sorry that you were so disappointed with the ingredients in this recipe. Obviously, healthy is subjective and what one person considers healthy, another does not. I chose to call this healthy fudge because it is a healthier alternative to regular fudge, which is loaded with processed sugar and often sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips etc. Honey, coconut oil and cocoa powder are all ingredients that are typically considered to be good for you in moderation. And I think we all generally view fudge as a treat that we eat sparingly, which is why I am comfortable with calling it healthy. I hope you can find an alternative recipe elsewhere that you would fully enjoy!

          Pat, it sounds like you need to research the health benefits of coconut oil and honey. Also sounds like you don’t know that there are different kinds of fats and sugars. There are good fats and nutrient dense sugars, which this recipe includes. You may also look within your determine why you choose to share such unkindness and critical judgement with others who are sharing themselves and their creativity with the world. Behavior like yours makes life harder for everyone and makes it where people won’t want to share their authentic selves with you for fear of your judgement and critical words. Unkindness and judgement is far more unhealthy than any fat or sugar.

            Coconut oil is a great oil and honey is the best truly natural sweetener, one that is God made, and is beneficial to our bodies. As a treat we eat sparingly, I think this is a healthier alternative to the yuck of traditional fudge.

          BTW, this is a super recipe, as it is so simple and fast and really delicious. You don’t have to eat the whole thing yourself, which would not be very healthy. 🙂

        Just reduce the honey a bit or increase the cocoa powder. Simple fix for you! I find this recipe to be really forgiving. I’ve probably made it a hundred times over the years and at this point I don’t even measure most of the time. Our whole family loves this and I feel blessed to have such a natural, whole food treat that I can whip up in minutes. THANK YOU for this amazing recipe Lydia!!
