DIY Round Wooden Door Hanger Spring Home Decor (2024)

Create this Round Wooden Door Hanger for your door for Spring. Using simple Dollar Tree florals, chalk paint, stain and a little bit of DIY you can re-create this door hanger for your front door. Display in your home for the Spring Season.

I just love Springtime. Being a Florida girl, the weather is just the best this time of year. You may not need even a sweater being in Florida, however, there are cool breezes and warm sunshine rays that are just enough to make you want to take a nap in a hammock outside.

Then it is HOT for most of the time around here.

And you want to just stay inside.

Bringing a little bit of Spring home decor inside your home can cheer you up and remind you of those Springtime days.

And of course, I have a DIY Round Door Hanger for you to recreate and display. I have this charming piece displayed on my front door on the inside so that I can enjoy as I walk by.

This project is super easy and simple to make and I used mostly Dollar Tree florals to create the finished look.

How To Make A Round Door Hanger

First, gather up all of your supplies. You can purchase most items at your local hardware store, however, you may find you have a few things on hand already.

Once you have all the materials you will need to set up an area to create. The dining room table or your craft table is a great place.I made this in front of my Dreamboxcabinet as it has all my supplies within the craft storage cabinet at an arms reach.

Making A Wooden Round Door Hanger

Once you have all the supplies you need, you will need to start preparing your wood piece for paint. I choose to not sand mine, but you may want to look at the wood piece you selected and see if any sanding is needed. I recommend using 220-320 grit sandpaper.

Once your wood is ready, begin by painting the wood with your chalk paint or acrylic paint. whatever you have on hand will work fine.

Once the paint is fully dry, at least a few hours or overnight, go back with your stain and make some stripes in the direction of the wood grain.

This process helps the wood round look aged and also planked. It also creates the illusion of shiplap planks or boards put together.

I love this look, however, you can choose to skip the stained part altogether. After I stained my board I went back with my white paint and lightening the darker parts of the stain.

You could easily just use sandpaper and sand away any excess for this step as well.

Since I had my paint out, I chose to just use the chalk paint again to wash out some of the stains. I also used a paper towel to sort of wipe or dry up the lines of the wood stain.

You can do this process once or a few times until you get the look you want or desire.

Then, I chose the floral pieces I wanted and hot glued them into place at the top of my round wood hanger. I also positioned them at an angle.

Applying A Vinyl Decal

Once your wood piece is painted, stained, and your flowers have been glued into place, you may want to include a word or saying.

You can download the Hello word from the Resource Library (free to join and subscribe). Cut the vinyl decal using your Cricut or Silhouette Machine.

I am also the owner of the newCricut Maker – and you can see myunboxing and set up here.

Once you have the vinyl decal cut and weeded, you can apply it to the dry paint on your wood round.

Hanging the Round Door Hanger

There are a couple of options when it comes to hanging the wooden Round Door Hanger on your wall or front door. You can use a picture framing kit, or you can do what I did.

I chose to take some large rope I had lying around in my stash of ribbons and nail it to the back of the round piece of wood. I used hot glue to also secure the rope down. I felt this kind of gave it a rustic farmhouse look. Plus, I didn’t have any picture hanging kits lying around.

I totally would’ve got this one from Amazon, but since I was finished with the piece I was impatient and just used what I had.

Here is a video of my process. Let me know if you have any questions.
