Oven baked Candied Kielbasa recipe made with brown sugar and ketchup that your family is going to love! This recipe is so easy and deliciously sweet! Serve candied kielbasa over rice or noodles for a full meal or as a appetizer for a potluck or game day.

Candied Kielbasa

How good is this sweet candied kielbasa sausage? It’s so good that my 3 year old was sneaking pieces straight out of the baking dish before it was even on her plate!

I’m just going to warn you. This candied kielbasa is addictive! What’s not to love about kielbasa, baked in the oven until caramelized and crispy, covered in a sweet sauce made with ketchup and brown sugar?

The dish is quick to prepare. Just throw it all in a baking dish, give it a stir and pop it in the oven! Once it’s ready, you can serve as a main course or appetizer. It’s always a hit at potlucks!

Want to have this for dinner? We always have it as a main course, served over white rice – the extra sauce is a bonus for pouring on top of the rice!

Ingredients

You only need 4 ingredients for this candied kielbasa.

  • kielbasa sausage, cut up into pieces
  • brown sugar
  • ketchup
  • horseradish (note: I definitely recommend it with horseradish to balance everything out. My husband couldn’t even guess there was horseradish in the sauce! If you don’t have it, I give a replacement suggestion below).

Don’t have horseradish?

You can substitute the horseradish with ¼ cup barbecue sauce and a dash of lemon juice.

How to Make Candied Kielbasa in the Oven

Spray a 8×8 baking dish with nonstick spray. Add slices of kielbasa into the baking dish.

Add brown sugar, ketchup and horseradish into the baking dish.

Mix to fully combine the ingredients together.

Bake in the oven, stirring every 30 minutes, until fully caramelized and crispy. This takes between 70-90 minutes depending on how thin the kielbasa is cut. Ours usually takes 90 minutes.

Serve over white rice, egg noodles or other pasta of your choice for a complete meal, or you can serve as a party appetizer!

Want to make it in the crockpot?

Although I prefer this baked in the oven as it’s more “candied” you can easily make this in the crockpot too.

Combine brown sugar, ketchup and horseradish in the crockpot. Add the sausage, and mix well. Cook on HIGH until it starts to boil. Reduce heat to LOW, cooking until the sauce thickens – about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Storing Leftovers and Freezing

Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

This candied kielbasa freezes amazing! Sometimes I make it just to freeze it for a quick weeknight meal. Allow it to cool down and then place in a freezer bag or freezer safe container. Freeze up to 3 months. When ready to serve, I defrost it in the microwave and then heat up on the stove.

Can you make this in a crockpot? Or at least after it’s cooked would it be fine in a crockpot? Thinking this might be a good Super Bowl food item!
