Showcase your bicycle like the work of art it is...
It’s kind of stating the obvious to say that cyclists tend to love their bikes. Whilst for the average person, a bicycle is just a piece of equipment to aid transportation or perhaps facilitate fitness gains, to us our bikes are a part of the family.
Our appreciation for bikes means that, above all else, we want to look after them; we want to keep them safe and comfortable, and perhaps even show them off.
Sometimes it can be tricky to find floor space for all of the bikes in our lives, especially for those living in flats or sharing a home with others. But where there’s a will – there’s a way.
Here’s a collection of some of the coolest bike storage ideas we could find to help inspire your next interior design adventure…
Get creative with bicycle hooks
Where once, a bicycle hook was pretty much always a single piece or rounded metal, now suddenly there are hundreds of contraptions available – many of them homemade ideas you can copy for your own abode…
Bike Storage Solutions that Don’t Require Holes in the Walls
The handy thing about getting creative and making your own bike hooks is that you can combine them with storage for other items such as helmets – and – erm – pot plants?
The bike shelf / book shelf mixture is incredibly common – and again the shelf makes a great storage area for helmets, locks, and perhaps even money, phone and keys. So you have all thefrequently lost items in one place…
CLUG it to ’em (on a short term basis)
The ‘CLUG’ is a popular home-bike-storage device that’s pretty inexpensive at around £15. However…
We did test out the CLUGourselves. At first we were REALLY impressed – but it’s worth noting that the plastic device tends to stretch over time and the bikes can become unstable. Though the honeymoon period is sweet, it’s not a good long term solution.
AIRLOK it for theft proofing
What IS a long term solution is Hiplok’s AIRLOK – but you’re looking more in the region of £130. It is a theft proof, beautiful looking piece of kit, though…
Build something custom
Cons: requires great effort, some knowledge of carpentry, and likely not to be transportable should you move (just make sure any new owners like bikes).
Pros: looks amazing. If you’re in your ‘forever home’, we say go for it…
Match your decor to your bike… (or vice versa)
Personal investment level: high. But it does look pretty damn rad…
Celebrate success
Training to race? Surround yourself, and your bike, with memories of success for best results.
Max out the workshop vibe
Having a ‘bike room’ that looks like (and, well, basically is) a fully functioning workshop is a great way to motivate yourself to get hands on.
Go space age
The clean lines of a well made bicycle blend well with the clean lines of a modern design, so amp up the tech geek inside you and merge them together.
Design space around the bike
Who says that the bike has to ‘fit’ into your life? Why not make your life fit around the bicycle? And really – does anyone ever use the bottom bunk, anyway?
Maximise your outside space
Most of us like our bikes to be safe and warm inside – but it’s not always possible – and with the right storage solution your bikes can be safe and warm outside, too.
One of the most popular options are theAsgard bike storageunits – they come available in all shapes and sizes and are theft and rust proof. We built and tested one (bottom right) and were really impressed.
Hold your bikes high
Ok, so some of these ideas – though stunning – might not be completely practical if you want to ride your bike everyday. But maybe it’s worth it…
And whoever said that bicycle art only worked for single bikes? Tandems want a piece of the action too…
Hoist it up
The Stowaway was designed bySinead Geraghty after she got frustrated with the constant battle to find floorspace for her bikes. It launched via Kickstarter.
Keep it simple
Th bicycle is a work of art in itself – so if you want to make a feature of your machine, keep the decor around it simple for maximum effect.
We hope this cycling home gallery got you itching to redecorate in a way that involves your bike as much as the rest of your life does.
